Biography
I, Kamaya Locke, am a gifted violinist known for my extraordinary talent and dedication to music. Born and raised around talented musicians in my family, I was inspired to also make music my passion. I began my musical journey in elementary school, where I first picked up the violin at the age of ten. Inspired by my music teacher, Mrs. Chong, I quickly developed a passion for the instrument, participating in local orchestras, school performances, and many musical events. Throughout my middle and high school years, I’ve honed my skills, earning accolades in school competitions and earning scholarships for my musical excellence.
In high school, I earned an award for “Outstanding Musician,’ and ‘Best Stand Partner’ of the year. Also in high school, I participated in GCYS (Gwinnett County Youth Symphony) where I received a certificate of completion. I’ve also been in honor orchestra in middle school and other great music concerts in high school such as MasterWorks. While simultaneously balancing my personal life and music life, I became a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Becoming a leader in the music world is a lifelong goal of mine, and in many ways, I’ve accomplished that by becoming a member of Tri-M. I’ve played for nursing homes, other schools in the area, and during important events because I was a trusted musician in the music community.
My hard work paid off when I was accepted into Kennesaw State University, where I am currently pursuing a double major in Violin Performance and Music Education. At KSU, I have continued to excel, performing in various ensembles and showcasing my talent in solo recitals. During my second year at KSU, I was awarded the Cooke Scholarship; where my hard work and passion for music was recognized. My dedication to education shines through in my commitment to sharing my love for music with others, as I plan to inspire the next generation of musicians through teaching. I receive plenty of performance and teaching opportunities as schools and non-musicians reach out to me in need of my service. During my years here at KSU, I’ve participated as a volunteer and string coach for String Day, NGHO (North Georgia Honor Orchestra), and Orchestra Invitational for 3 years. In my pursuit of showing leadership, for the last 2-3 years at KSU, I’ve been given an internship to be Site-Coordinator of GYSO (Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra) at MPAC.
My blend of performance prowess and educational ambition makes me a rising star in the music community, and I will continue to push the boundaries of my artistry while influencing those around me. With my remarkable journey still unfolding, the future holds great promise for me.
